I am saddened by the loss of my dear friend and mentor, "Mr.Nick". He was truly a humble spirit who cared for all. Mr.Nick's ability to overlook the bad and see the good in everybody was a lesson to all who had the privledge of meeting him.
Goodbye Mr.Nick, you served as an example of how we should treat each other in this cruel world. Your kind heart and gentle spirit will be missed by many.

Love,
Ashley

I was very sad to learn of Nick's passing. He and Mayo will always be part of the Historical Significance of North Carolina's Restaurant Industry. Nick was a great supporter of the restaurant industry at the national, state and local level. I join a legion of friends and associates in expressing my sense of loss that I share with his family and friends across the nation.

How sad I am to hear of Mr. Boddie's passing. I had the pleasure and privledge of knowing Mr. Boddie through his service on the First Union board of directors and through our joint service to the Boy Scouts of America. I think the first personal visit I had from Nick was when I took the job as City Exec for First Union years ago. He advised me (in his own unique, kind, grandfatherly way) that he thought it would be good for me to be involved in the Scouts, and asked me to the "Friends of Scouting" campaign the coming year. Well, Mr. Boddie was someone that you just didn't say "no" to when he asked you to to be involved in something that he believed in, and God knows he believed in the Boy Scouts! That was the beginning of a long association with Scouting as a volunteer and eventually service on the Eastern NC council board. I also loved spending time helping out and participating in the golf tournament at Mid Pines. What a great event and it was ALL because of Nick. I would love to know the amount of money the man single handedly raised for Scouting. I am sure it is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Nick loved golf and I enjoyed nothing more than having the opportunity to golf with Nick. I'll never forget a trip I won in a charity raffle to play golf with Nick at the Country Club of North Carolina and stay in his place there.

I am certain that when Nick arrived at the "pearly gates" he was greeted with the words found in Matthew 25:23, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master!.'

God bless Nick Boddie and the Boddie family.

I had the privilege of working for BNE for 28 1/2 years. Nick was always a joy to see and was a true example of a gentleman. The world has truly lost a fine and gentle soul. I know that when it's my time to go, I'll see him in heaven 'cause there no other place for him to be. Deepest sympathy to Betsy, his children and their families and the entire Boddie family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nick Boddie on several occassions through ABWA (American Business Women's Association) and through that other organizations he was involved in. He was funny and very passionate about any charity he was involved in. I enjoyed being able to sit at his table at several special dinners I was invited to and when he would join us at one of out ABWA meetings or special events. One of my most memorable was one of the boy scout dinners he invited me to. The Celebrity Waiters Dinner. Patricia Mauceri from One Life To Live was there. She was one of my favorites. He had her sit at the table and join us after dinner and even though it was she and I carrying on the conversation, he listened and made comments and told me later he had a really great time that night. I was lucky enough to sit next to him that night and chat with him. He was a funny man that truely cared and will be sorely missed. RIP Nick.

It truly is a sad day to hear such disturbing news. I can remember many pleasant times we all had around the Carlton House Round Table. Nick was a dear friend and one I always enjoyed talking to when I returned to Rocky Mount. I trust that all who knew him will always remember what a special person he was.
