Walter Leon Shearin, 93, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022. He was born August 1, 1928 in Beaufort County to the late Walter Daniels and Ada Brantley Shearin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Wesley Shearin; daughter, Kim Shearin; and sisters, Dottie Cartee, Shirley Boyce, Peggy Groce, and Pasty Bean. He is survived by his sons, Todd Shearin and Scott Shearin (Angela); brother, Adrian Langley; sister, Georgia Sullivan; grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Hannah, Lee, and Cheyene Shearin, Landis, Logan, and Jordan Smith; 7 great grandchildren; and special friends, Mary Harper, Bobby Reams, and Linda Ruffin. As owner of Leon's Body Shop. He opened the business in 1957 and continued to successfully operate it for over 40 years. He was a trailblazer in the auto body repair industry. He was well respected and received many awards from the Independent Garage Owners association. He was also among the first to bring Teletype Service to North Carolina. He was an avid pilot and owned two aircrafts during his flying years. During his later years he developed a love for dance and became quite good at it. You could find him several nights a week on the dance floor where he made many friends, Over 30 years ago he built a building to house his antique car collection and began digging a pond. Friends began asking to have functions at the property and his beautiful creation grew into something he could have never anticipated. People from all over the county know it today as "Leon's Barn". Almost single handedly he has maintained and continued to make improvements to the property that brought him great pride and joy. His life represented something he has said many times, the 3 most important things to becoming successful are family, health and a good reputation. He will be missed by many. A visitation with family and friends will be Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 12:30 pm with the service following at 2 pm at Leon's Barn 3438 Batchelor Road, Nashville, NC. 27856.
