William Hales Obituary

William Ronnie Hales, Sr.
HALIFAX - William Ronnie Hales, Sr., 84, of Halifax, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on October 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 20, 1940, in Rocky Mount, NC, he was the son of Nellie Taylor Strickland and stepson of W. Irving Strickland.
Ronnie was a longtime and dedicated member of Community Center Baptist Church in Halifax, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent, song leader, and choir member. His deep faith and spirit touched everyone who knew him.
A 1959 graduate of Aurelian Springs High School, Ronnie later attended East Carolina College. He worked as a salesman for Dillion Supply Company and was active in the Halifax County and North Carolina Cattlemen's Associations. He also served on the Board of Trustees for Halifax Academy.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eleanor Jones Hales; sons William Ronnie Hales, Jr. (wife Colleen) and Mitchell Byron Hales; and grandchildren Helene McPhail and Liam Hales. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Denise Hales and his sister, Wanda Hardee.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Community Center Baptist Church in Halifax, NC. Interment will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Center Baptist Church or Easter Seals UCP North Carolina.
