Andrew Moore Obituary

Mr. Andrew Clay Moore, loving husband and father of two, passed away after a sudden heart attack on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, in Lawrenceville, GA.

Andrew was born January 5, 1972, at Myrtle Beach AFB hospital in South Carolina to Larry and Dianne Moore. He was welcomed by a doting big sister, Amy. The family moved to Lindale, Georgia in 1973, and became staples of the community. They enjoyed spending time with extended family and vacationing together.

Andrew graduated from Pepperell High School in 1990. He was president of his senior class and Salutatorian. He was awarded a Presidential Scholarship to The Georgia Institute of Technology and earned both a Bachelor and Master's Summa Cum Laude degree in Mechanical Engineering. Anyone who knew Andrew can attest to his love for Georgia Tech and much of that stemmed from the Christian community he found while there. At the time of his death, Andrew worked for Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc as Director, Testing & Compliance. For Andrew, going to work each day afforded him not only the means to provide for his family, but the opportunity to learn everyone's story and find ways to encourage and support them individually.

Andrew and his wife, Melissa met in 1996 when they both attended a college and career class at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Sandy Springs. The couple married in the summer of 2000 surrounded by their many friends and family at Andrew's home church in Lindale. Andrew was a devoted father to Clay and Casey. His pride in his children was evident in the way he supported them in every activity they pursued, from coaching soccer and basketball to attending Rubik's cube competitions and theatrical plays. The family enjoyed traveling, playing board games, and serving at their church, First Baptist Church Loganville together. Andrew was never more happy than when the whole family was together.

Andrew's favorite verse was Isaiah 40:31, "But those that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint". The verse that personified his life was Micah 6:8. "Mankind, He has told you what is good, and what it is that the Lord requires of you, to act justly, love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God".

Andrew was preceded in death by grandparents Clay and Willie Moore of Calhoun, Wallace and Mary Lowery of Rome, and uncle Steve Lowery of East Point. Andrew is survived by his wife Melissa, two children Clay and Casey, parents Larry and Dianne Moore, sister Amy (Reg) Ozment, and niece Julianna.

A large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins also, survive. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Loganville on Friday, May 5th at 11:00am and at First Baptist, Lindale on Saturday, May 6th at 2PM. Visitation will be held at both locations one hour prior to the service hour.

Mellisa, Clay and Casey. I was so sorry to hear about Andrew. I have been thinking a lot about the idea of family the older I get, and about how family, and what makes up a family. I remember the first time I met Andrew, it was at a Thanksgiving at Donna's house many years ago, and my first reaction was "This nice, calm, pleasant, decent and normal man has no idea what he got himself into with this family." I'll never forget Andrew being so kind, so pleasant, checking in on Papa and asking him how Tiger was doing, or just catching up about the Falcons or the Braves over the holiday get-togethers. Andrew was a really, profoundly good man. What else could you ask for from family? I am deeply sorry for your loss, and please know I am thinking of y'all.

I think it was somewhere roughly in the early 1990's, I was helping in the Youth Department of First Baptist of Lindale. We came up with a service project to help a fellow church member and we tried to recruit as many youth as possible to help. If my memory serves me correctly, Andrew was the only youth to show up and help. This sums up all I know about Andrew. God Bless and keep you Dianne, Larry and Amy and your family.

I never knew he was from Rome. I moved to Rome in 1999 to serve at Shorter University as BCM Campus Minister!! My prayers are with Andrew’s family.
