Emmalee Highnote Obituary

Life long Cave Spring resident Mrs. Emmalee Highnote, 101, passed away Friday afternoon, June 9, 2023 at her residence

The former Emma Lee Jones, she was born in Cave Spring, December 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Tudor Jones and the late Jessie Lee Forbes Jones. Mrs. Highnote was a graduate of the Cave Spring Consolidated school, the West Georgia College and received her Master's degree from Appalachian State University. She began her career in education at Georgia School for the Deaf when as a young adult she became a house mother there. Through the years, she "climbed the ladder" becoming a teacher, an administrative assistant and retired as Principal of the Lower School in the 1980s.

A former member of the Cave Spring Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Highnote was a current member of the Cave Spring United Methodist Church where she had formerly served her church as the finance chair.

Mrs. Highnote was active through the years in many aspects of Cave Spring life, being a founding member of the Cave Spring Historical Society, the Bridge Club, was a state officer of the Eastern Star, the Leona Clements Porcelain Guild, and served as regent of the Cedartown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a former member of the City Council and had also served as Mayor Pro-Tem.

Mrs. Highnote was married to Arthur Drane (Doc) Highnote on Thanksgiving Day, 1942, and was preceded in death by him September 20, 1999. Beside her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tudor (Bunk) Jones, Jr. and John Calvin Jones; by her sister, Mrs. Margaret Jones Harling; and by two son-in-laws, Jerrel Hunt and Richard Allgood.

Mrs. Highnote is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Allgood of Cave Spring and Mrs. Laura Hunt of Cleveland, Georgia and by five grandchildren, Mathew Boyd Hunt, Emily Grace Hunt, Joshua Styles Hunt, Richard Bradford Allgood, and William Arthur Allgood. A number of nieces and nephews and special family members and friends too numerous to name also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Highnote will be held Sunday afternoon, June 18, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Cave Spring United Methodist Church with Rev. Natalie Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Cave Spring Cemetery. Mrs. Highnote's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Highnote will lie in state at the church from 1:00 until the service hour and the family will receive friends at that time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alton Holman Heritage Arts, the Cave Spring Historical Society, or to the Cave Spring United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Highnote's family wishes to thank the staff of Heyman Hospice and many other caregivers that have been a part of their family for the last few years.

This incredible woman, who I think of as the matriarch of Cave Spring, has left an amazing legacy for her hometown. I hope the future will see young ladies following in her footseps. She knew everything about the history of our small town, never failing to do anything she could to promote and preserve it. I will be forever grateful to her for this.

Remember Ms Highnote as she guided her staff and students up on Primary Hill. She was a positive force at school and in the community.

Aunt Emmalee was always the sweetest and most gracious lady. She was the epitome of a southern lady. I always thought she was such a pretty lady. You all are in my prayers.
