Deaconess Annie Louise Clark, 82, of Utica, peacefully transitioned from this life surrounded by love on August 28, 2025.
Born Annie Louise Jones on January 22, 1943, in Oxford, Mississippi, she was the beloved daughter of the late Bessie Lee Seals and Eddie Nelson Jones.
She began her education in Mississippi, attending New Hope and Byhalia Elementary Schools. At the age of 16, she relocated to Utica, NY, where she completed her education at Utica Free Academy, graduating in 1962.
On March 23, 1963, Annie married the late Arthur L. Clark. From this union, three children were born. She also lovingly helped raise a stepson.
Annie worked diligently and faithfully for 40 years before retiring from Raytheon.
Deaconess Annie Clark's spiritual journey was central to her life. She received the Holy Ghost in the 1960s under the leadership of Elder Pearl Bennett and served faithfully under Bishop E.J. Lucas in Utica. Over the years, she held numerous leadership roles at the House of God Church in Syracuse, including Chairperson of the Deacon Board, President of the Pastor's Aide Club, Church Treasurer, and Senior Class Teacher in the Sunday Bible School-a position she held for many years. At the state level, she served as Vice President of the Deacon Union, President of the State Courtesy Welfare Auxiliary, a member of the State Finance Committee, and Assistant Chairperson of the Registration and Hospitality Committee.
Known for her dependability, generosity, and servant's heart, Deaconess Clark fulfilled every responsibility with excellence. She often went above and beyond, purchasing supplies for the church out of her own pocket and never asking for reimbursement. Her love for the church was evident in everything she did, and her presence will be deeply missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Cheryl Clark of Rome, NY; Adrian Clark of Marietta, GA; and Bruce Clark of Utica, NY; as well as one stepson, Reese Moore Sr. of Utica, NY. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren, great-grandmother of thirteen, and great-great-grandmother of two. She also leaves behind a goddaughter, Diane Betton of Adamsville, GA; a dear lifelong friend she considered a sister, Emma Wilkerson of Utica, NY; and an honorary son, Andrew Jones, also of Utica.
Deaconess Clark is also survived by her siblings: Earlene Bethel of Los Angeles, CA; Barbara Ann (Steve) Austin and Alice Faye Jones, both of Fontaine, CA; Teresa (LV) Phillips of Abbeville, MS; Eddie Frank (Ruby) Jones and Lee Andrew (Sharon) Seals, both of Byhalia, MS; and Marion (Melissa) Seals of Cohoes, NY. She also leaves behind a beloved brother-in-law, Larry Cook of Albany, NY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Clark; her parents, Bessie Lee Seals and Eddie Nelson Jones; three brothers, Joe Murray Jones, Elliott Seals Jr., and Jesse Lee Seals; two sisters, Jewel Ann Cook and Joanne Williams; and her stepson, Marcus Moore.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the House of God, 800 John St., Utica. Funeral services will commence following visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in New Forest Cemetery, Utica.
