Anthony Finocchiaro Obituary

CANASTOTA - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Anthony Alexander Finocchiaro who left us too soon, at the age of 31, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

He was born on April 20, 1994 in Syracuse, NY, the son of Peter M. Finocchiaro and Mary Kay (Whidden) Golden. Anthony was a resident of Chicago, IL these last seven years. He was a graduate of Canastota High School in 2012 and a graduate of Brown University, with a double major in economics and information technology, in 2017. While in high school, he participated in Rotary Interact, FBLA, Free-Thinking and Philosophy Club, Debate Club, Science Club, Band, RYLA and Boys' State Attendee (elected senator); first place finisher in the Rube Goldberg Competition in Physics. He was also a member of the Mohawk Valley Wrestling Club and an award-winning wrestler, two-time State Winner, placing 2nd and 3rd, five-time State Qualifier, four-time Section Champion and three time All- American. He wrestled in the countries of Turkey, Netherlands, Germany and Puerto Rico. He also won the Canada Cup gold medal. Before moving back to Canastota, Anthony wrestled varsity level at Baldwinsville School, for four years, from 7th grade through 10th grade. Anthony still holds the Canastota record at 235 wins. While at Brown University, he attended ROTC and wrestled three years, where he received the Wrestling Artimis Joukowsky Award.

Anthony was employed in Chicago with StoneX Group, a global financial institution, as software developer. He was a leader of various teams during his time there. While in Chicago, he was a member of a local Jiu-Jitsu Club and Chess Club. Co-workers described Anthony as an excellent team player, intelligent, diligent with an exceptional work ethic.

In his life, Anthony always brought others along with him, never making anyone feel small. He was a beacon of light that made us better people.

He is survived by his father, Peter M. and stepmother, Andrea Finocchiaro, of Canastota, NY; mother, Mary Kay and stepfather, Ron Golden, of Baldwinsville, NY; siblings, MB (Colin Murray) Finocchiaro, of Bel Air, MD, Peter W. (Chen-Chen) Finocchiaro, of Wuhan, China; stepbrothers, Jason (Yanelli) Cole, of Liverpool, NY, Christian (Jamie) Golden, of Cicero, NY; stepsisters, Annette (Danny-Boy) McLaughlin, of Fonda, NY, Danielle (Max) Szemkow, of Manlius, NY, Samantha (Roger) Thayer, of Syracuse, NY; uncles and aunts, S.
