Armand Castro Obituary

Armand R Castro Jr., 71, of Bradenton FL, formerly of Rome, beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and friend passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Armand was the son of Armando and Madeline Casalaro Castro of Rome. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1972. On April 25, 1975, Armand was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart Bonnie Fernandez. Armand and Bonnie enjoyed life together for 49 years and had two beautiful children Armand III and Kelly.

Armand worked at the Rome Developmental Center for over ten years. Armand then moved his family to Ohio where he enjoyed an illustrious career with The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as Director of Customer Relations and was affectionately known as the "Director of Fun." He traveled the world in his role with Goodyear, often accompanied by his dear wife Bonnie, creating lasting memories of beautiful experiences and lifelong friendships with countless Goodyear dealers, vendors, and partners.

In retirement, Armand and Bonnie fulfilled their lifelong dream of moving to Florida and living in paradise. Armand continued working as a consultant, and then as a leader, being actively involved in two communities in Florida as HOA President for over 12 years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends and neighbors.

Armand collected and retained friends wherever he went. Whether living in Central NY, Ohio, Florida, or traveling, people will remember his infectious smile and how much he loved to joke, tease, and provoke with his ever-present sense of humor.

People describe him as a truly special man, mentor, the brother they never had, best friend, icon, role model, and so much more. The pinnacle of his lasting legacy is his complete devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Armand is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, his two children, Armand III, Marietta GA; Kelly (Ben) Hamel, Parrish FL; five grandchildren, Madeline Grace, Dominic (aka Nico), Gianna, Justin, and Tori. Sisters include Rita Versace, San Antonio, FL; Molly Castro (Ernie Marcello), Rome, brother Jim Castro, Virginia Beach VA; and sister-in-law Lucille Castro. Fernandez family, Bill (Ingrid), Oswego; Dick (Maureen), S. Lake Tahoe CA; Mark (Annette), Hot Springs Village AR; Robin, Lakewood Ranch FL; and many nieces and nephews. Armand is predeceased by his parents Armando and Madeline; in-laws Bill and Eda Fernandez; brother Ed Castro; and brother-in-law Sam Versace.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St. , with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Calling hours at the church will be from 10:00-11:00am prior to the mass. A Celebration of Life will be held in Bradenton, FL in the very near future.

He lived a wonderful life, was a successful corporate executive and was a very loving, supportive family man. He embodied the term "self-made man". We pray that the Lord will bless and comfort Bonnie, Armand III, Kelly and his grandchildren with incredible memories of him for years to come.
