Beverly Alessi Obituary

Beverly Carol Brown Alessi passed away on January 5. 2023 after a long battle with chronic illness. Beverly was born in Kerhonkson, NY on June 10th, 1935 to Helen and Harrison Brown. Bev graduated from Union School of Nursing as an RN in 1956. She pursued her BS in Nursing and obtained her Masters of Nursing Education from Syracuse University College of Nursing. Beverly loved the field of nursing, and also loved learning and teaching. She remained at Upstate Medical SUNY as a clinical instructor and practiced nursing for several years. This is where she met the medical student who would become her loving husband of 63 years, Dr. Robert E. Alessi of Rome, NY.

Beverly and Robert moved to Rome with their 3 children in 1969, where Bev began building friendships throughout the community. Bev was a devout Christian with a big heart and a strong faith. She was a longstanding member of the First Presbyterian Church and sang for many years in the Senior Choir, taught countless Sunday School classes, made numerous batches of candy for the Fall Bazaar, and made a bounty of lifelong friends.

Beverly enjoyed the outdoors all year-round. She was especially fond of gardening and kept her perennials happy all around her home. She loved golfing with the ladies league at Teugega Country Club and swimming in Lake Delta. In the winter she enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, and made several trips with Bob and the Griffiss Ski Club, as well as annual trips to Lake Tahoe to visit their son. She loved traveling to visit family, to sight-see, and to engage in cultural experiences. She and her husband travelled extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia.

Beverly was very active with cultural, philanthropic, and social clubs and enjoyed all the friends involved with her sorority of PEO, Wednesday Morning Club, and church. She was a member and past President of both PEO and WMC and also a member of the WMC singers. She was a beloved Girl Scout Troop leader. She was also a participant with the friends of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra for many years.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband Dr. Robert E. Alessi, and her three children: Daryl (Sheila) Alessi, Dawn (Frank) Brognano), and Doreen (Shane) Alessi-Holmes; five grandchildren: Alexa (Cody) Alessi and Adam Alessi, and Kristin, Lauren, and Franklyn Brognano; and her older brother Glenn Brown.

Beverly will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, sister, Omi, friend, warrior, and mentor. She will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 108 W. Court St., Rome NY 13440. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome , NY 13440, on Thursday, January 12th from 4-6:00 p.m.
