Carole B. Davis, 82, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving friends and family after a lengthy battle with multiple health issues.
Born on October 15, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Rinker) Byer. Carole attended Dundalk High School and later went on to attend Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.
On August 19, 1972, Carole married Terry Davis, at the Cathedral of the Pines, in Rindge, New Hampshire. Together they shared more than 52 years of love and companionship. They moved to their current residence in Frankfort, New York on March 1, 1978.
Carole was a gifted artisan who turned a personal hobby into a business. After several years of working out of her home, Carole opened and operated a retail consignment store in New Hartford, New York called Out Of The Ordinary. She sold handmade craft items she made as well as consigned goods from various other local crafters. She eventually moved her store to the Charlestown Mall complex on Bleecker Street in Utica. She closed the store in June 1991.
After the closure of her store, Carole continued with her craft business out of her home. She would rent space on weekends at various craft fairs throughout New York State and the Northeast. She would also volunteer her time and supplies to conduct craft classes at various senior centers and nursing homes so that residents could create their own memorable works of art. She eventually had to give up her craft activities due to health issues. Her volunteer work also included the collection and distribution of various clothing and other items to local area charities, senior, and veteran facilities.
Carole was a charismatic individual whose smile and bright blue eyes would light up a room when she entered. She never met a "stranger". Anyone she met she considered a friend. She loved babies and children, especially her own grandchildren. She loved playing games with the children, whether they were 2 or 25, she would engage accordingly. She had several different groups of friends. She had friends with whom she spent time at the casino playing the nickel slot machines for hours on end. She had friends in several different bridge groups where she played on a regular basis. She had a special group called the "Camp Girls". They would rent a camp, for a week, at one of the area lakes each summer. It would be a girls-only week to swim, play games, eat, and drink. The remainder of the year they would gather one night each month at a member's residence to play games, eat, and drink. Carole also loved to shop. There was always a sale item too good to pass up. Many of her "bargains" she would end up giving to friends or family members.
Carole is survived by her husband, Terry; her children, Jennifer (Michael) Mowers and Terry (Alyson) Davis, Jr.; her grandchildren, Liam, Kiernan, Brady, and Jessalyn Mowers; Charlie, Isla, and Penelope "Penny" Davis; and her dear friend and caregiver, Samantha Drake. Carole was predeceased by her son, Kevin Erwin (2016); her brother, William Byer; her granddaughter, Charlotte Davis (2015); and her parents.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours and a Celebration of Life in Carole's honor. The date and time will be at the convenience of the family and will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements for all services are being handled by McGrath, Myslinski, Kowalczyk & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Road, Utica.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carole's name may be made to a
