Diane Cosimeno Obituary

1945 - 2025

Diane Marie (Barnes) Cosimeno, 80, of Rome, passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, after a long illness, with her loving daughters, Lisa, Louise and Diane and her most faithful companion, Benji, by her side.

She was born in Rome, NY, on February 21, 1945, the daughter of Eleanor Smith and William Winter, but blessed to have her stepfather, Leo Karwacz, and found a source of strength and guidance with Steven Barnes in her life. Diane attended school in Gloversville, NY and graduated from Gloversville High School.

On June 12, 1965, she married the love of her life, Louis J. Cosimeno, Jr., after they met while he was working in construction in Gloversville. She would come to Rome and stay with her favorite family, the LaSalles, so she could see him on weekends. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his death in 2017. Diane retired from the Rome City School District and was the bookkeeper for L.C. General Trucking, the family business.

She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters, along with many amazing friends, especially her lifelong friends, Bev, Mary, Linda B. and Nancy M. and blessed with too many others to mention.

She was known for her love of decorating for Christmas, sparkling clothes, shoes, jewelry and her banter with her grandchildren over politics, they sure knew how to get her going. Despite her illness she maintained a strong mind, her quick wit and unwavering strength as the matriarch of her family.

Diane is survived by her daughters, Lisa Zurek, Kelley (Ken) Whalen, Louise (Pete) Schipano and Diane (Jim) D'Amico; grandchildren, Olivia, Louis, Katelynn, Serina, Santino, Lucca, Gianna and Elena; and great-granddaughters, Isabella, Sophia, Violet and Brynlee, who all brought joy and enjoyment to her life. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn (John) Pope; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Louis; sister, Dawn Comeau; brothers, Steven, Terry and Dan; nephew, Phillp Traut; brothers-in-law, Nicholas Cosimeno, Robert Blood and John Blaich; and sisters-in-law, Sandy Cosimeno, Vincetta Blood and Antoinette Blaich.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 7 p.m. at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday August 14, 2025 from 4-7 p.m., prior to the service.
