Donald E. "Big Don" Cieslewitz, 88, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at the Abraham House of Rome. Born in Rome on September 12, 1935, he was a son of the late Peter and Verna (Ostrowski) Cieslewitz. He attended St. Aloysius Academy and graduated from Rome Free Academy. After high school, Don served in the Army National Guard. On May 31, 1958, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Anne Janczewski.

Don owned and operated Stan's Seafood with his family for many years.

He was a member of Transfiguration Church, Toccolana Club, Galliano Club and Rome Country Club. He was an avid golfer, bowler and bocce player.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne; his daughter, Carol Cieslewitz (David); his three sons, Edward Cieslewitz, Ronald Cieslewitz (De) and Stanley Cieslewitz (Pamela); a brother, James Cieslewitz (Beth); five grandchildren, Andrew, Jillian, Geoffrey and Derek Cieslewitz and Cole Donnelly; two great-grandchildren, Everli Mae and Luka Don; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends, including Bucky Bartolotti, Scott Beach and Vinnie Borello. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Cieslewitz.

Don's family would like to thank the ICU staff at Rome Health, especially Teresa, Doreen, Tina, Chris, Yanna, Stephen and Stephanie, and the staff at Abraham House, who went above and beyond to make him laugh, make him comfortable, and make him feel loved even though they had just met him.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Don's memory to the Abraham House of Rome, 417 N. Washington St., Rome NY 13440. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc, 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440

Anne and family, I am so sorry. Everyone loved 'Big Don' and anyone who played golf with him has a story.... mine would be the pool party scramble where he holed out for an eagle (and skin) at the 15th. I never saw him smile so large. He will be dearly missed by all.
