George Vindigni Obituary
George Vindigni passed away peacefully on the morning of August 16, 2025 at the Presbyterian Home in New Hartford, NY, near where he and his wife, Honey Vindigni, had resided. Honey predeceased George on December 29, 2024.
George was born on April 24, 1944 at St. Vincent Hospital in New York City. His parents, Ernest and Hilda Vindigni, later moved the family to the Town of Callicoon, New York and they purchased a former tuberculosis respiratory convalesce home with over 100 acres in the western foothills of the Catskills, and converted the house to a summer resort and named it Villa Roma. George and his younger brother, Richard, grew up there and had many happy times. The Vindigni family eventually sold Villa Roma and the resort is still active today under the same name.
George graduated from Michigan State University where he received a degree in Hotel Management. He then enlisted in the United States Army during the height of the Vietnam was and was posted to West Germany's eastern border and, while serving as a company clerk for a missile unit, he obtained top-secret and cryptography clearances and received and passed on many messages regarding the activities of the eastern Soviet block countries during the cold war.
After he completed his Army service he moved to Southern California and went back to school, enrolling at the California State University at Los Angeles, graduating with an accounting degree.
George was hired by the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) after his graduation and spent over thirty years with the GAO and received top secret clearance from the US government. He lived most of the time in Los Angeles but he worked in Washington DC for several of those years. He received numerous awards for his work and was well respected and liked by colleagues and staff. George became a top defense analyst and completed many reviews related to the Navy, NASA and national security. George obtained expertise in financial and performance audits with specific expertise in auditing large and complex information systems, including technology systems. After retiring from GAO George provided financial performance and information technology related services on assignment for nationwide and regional CPA/financial and management consulting firms.
George enjoyed staying in shape and led a very active life style in a wide variety of sports. He ran numerous 5K and 10K races and completed several olympic distance triathlons. George was an avid hiker and climbed to the top of many southern California peaks, including a one-day 22 mile hike to the top of Mt Whitney at over 14,500 feet. He also did many multiple day bicycle rides, including a trip from San Francisco to LA and a ride from LA to Lake Tahoe. In 1988 he and a good friend completed a 42-day bicycle ride across the US from Santa Monica, California to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
George frequently visited his brother, Richard, and family for Christmas and enjoyed spending time with his nieces as they grew up.
George married Honey Wade in 2007 and in 2019 he and Honey moved to New York to be closer to his brother, Richard, eventually residing at Preswick Glen, New Hartford. NY.
George is survived by his brother, Richard Vindigni, sister-in-law, JoAnne Vindigni, of Sherrill, New York, his niece, Cristina Vindigni and her husband, Jordan Zagury, and his niece, Michele Vindigni, all residing in NYC. He is also survived by his niece, Melissa Vindigni, and her husband, Cathal O'Gara, residing in Ireland. He is additionally survived by his grand nieces, Nayla and Delilah Zagury, of NYC.
