George Wyman Obituary

George Marshall Wyman Jr., age 76, passed away on November 9, 2024, after a long-fought battle with cancer.

He was born the son of George and Bertha Wyman of Lee Center, on July 29, 1948. After graduating from SUNY Morrisville, George worked at Delta Lake State Park as a park caretaker and began working his way up the hierarchy for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. On October 16, 1971, he was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth "Betty" Howard. George was incredibly proud of the career that he held and it spanned over 40 years and he retired with multiple accolades, and as the Regional Administrator of the Allegany Region. Notably, George received the high honor of the Maple Leaf Award, presented to him by the Commissioner of New York State.

He was described as someone with honesty, integrity, an individual who had a keen sense of duty and an ability to show a unique grasp of human problems in his official acts. Another passion in George's life was his commitment to serving as a volunteer firefighter. He devoted a significant part of his life to responding to emergencies with his peers. He took great pride in the work that he did. He received a lifetime membership to the Lee Center Fire Department following his lengthy service. Equally as important to George, were his hobbies and everyday activities. He was an avid outdoorsman, and card player. He loved going to the casino and playing poker as well as playing Pitch with his family and friends. He was a member of the Point Rock United Methodist Church as a trustee, Point Rock Fish and Game Club and Sleepy Hollow Golf Course fondly known as "Bad George." George and Betty enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, and visiting their kids. George will always be remembered for his incredible sense of humor and his unwavering support of his family. George, we miss you.

George is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty; his three children, Christina (Derek) Stout of Salem MA, Claudia (Peter) Donahue of Westernville, and George (Jessie) Wyman III of Wakefield, MA; three grandchildren, Dr. Victoria Stout (Dr. Justin Stacy) of Salem MA, PJ Donahue III, and Jack Donahue; and his two beloved labrador dogs, Buster Brown and Molly Mae, and one big black cat, Snooki.

George's funeral will be held on Saturday, November 16, at 1 p.m. at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Point Rock Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral.
