J. Douglas Miller, "Doug" as known by his family and friends, passed away, in peace at his home, on March 2, 2026, surrounded by his long time partner, Britt Svensson and his friends.
Doug was born in
Rome, NY, on April 19, 1943. In the late 1950s, Doug moved to
Williamsville, NY. In Williamsville, he and his brother, Ronald Miller, joined "The Buffalo Wrestling Club", the Billies. Doug competed in many wrestling tournaments and won several tournaments during 1959 - 1961. Doug continued participating in wrestling when he entered Dartmouth College. At Dartmouth, he received a "Diploma" for Honorable Services Rendered to his College as a Member of The Wrestling Team for the Season of 1962-63. After receiving his Chemistry Degree from Dartmouth College in 1965, Doug entered the State University of New York in Buffalo, NY, where he received a Master's Degree in Education in 1967.
After teaching for a short period, Doug became involved in the telecommunications industry. Doug worked for NCR, where he contributed to the development of the Bar Code. Doug also worked for Sprint and LM Ericsson. With LM Ericsson, a Swedish Telecommunication company, he made many business trips to Sweden.
In 1985, Doug started his own business "CDR of Washington", which was located in
Vienna, VA. The company designed and developed a comprehensive telephone call accounting and call management for IBM-PC users. The business had many clients throughout the United States and was in operation until Doug's retirement.
Doug's interest and curiosity in the world around him, led him to much traveling, both nationally and internationally.
From an early age, Doug had a keen interest in shotguns and rifles. Throughout his life, he was a member of shotgun, rifle and pistol clubs. He was an accurate, expert and skilled marksman competing and participating in several shooting competitions and tournaments in the tri-state area, winning several awards both in local and state-wide tournaments.
In the mid-1970s, Doug established residency in Fulton County, PA. He moved to the
Needmore, PA area in the late 1970s, where he designed the home and property that he resided in until his passing.
Doug is predeceased by his parents, Horace Miller and Helen Bishopp Miller; brother, Ronald Miller; and cousin, Robert Schaller.
He is survived by his long-time partner, Britt Svensson,
Reston, VA; sister-in-law, Barbara Miller, of
Gallatin, TN; nieces, Koreen Miller,
Rockaway, NJ and Edith Paige Holloway,
Gallatin, TN and Robert Schaller's wife, Marjory Schaller,
Rome, NY; and the Schaller children, Chris Schaller, Lee Center, NY, Todd Schaller,
Taberg, NY, Katrina Mercer,
Oneida, NY and Heidi LaSalle,
Canastota, NY.
