We knew Jim in the community and as a football coach to our son. He taught the young men, now grown adults, the importance of commitment, dedication, and individual contribution to a team that carries them through life now. Deepest condolences to Emily and his entire family.

I met Jim in August of 1990 when I entered my first year at Hamilton College. We were both aspiring football players playing the same position and living close to one another on campus. We immediately bonded over humor and sarcasm, not to mention the joy of social life and the fear of playing college sports and attending college classes.
Soon our friendships expanded and many of our new friends joined Delta Kappa Epsilon where we lived for three years until graduation. Jim was one of my best friends during college and after college. Jim genuinely cared about every one of his friends. In an age of email, texting, and direct messages he would always call. He knew the importance of a conversation and scheduling a day to get together. I hope others will follow his lead. He called me recently after a transition at my work and wanted to know how he could help and that he was there for me. It meant a lot.
We shared compassion for coaching. When I was coaching high school football, I would routinely see him roaming the sidelines eager to talk to me about the outcome following the final whistle. This past spring I was blessed to coach my youngest daughter and her friends to the state championship in middle school lacrosse. Jim shook my hand and gave me a huge hug after the game. He traveled over an hour on a cold and rainy day because he was my friend, not because he was compassionate about middle school girls´ lacrosse.
To his former players, athletes and coworkers, consider what you learned from Jim and have an influence on someone´s life. He certainly had an influence in our lives. Thoughts and prayers to Emily, Liam, and Thea. We are here for you as Jim was for us.

I met "JimO" in 1990 as a Freshman at Hamilton College. The first time I met him, he literally gave me his jacket to wear, as it was cold and raining and I was in a soaking wet sweatshirt on the sidelines of a football field as the equipment manager and he was out with an injury.
I moved to the Washington DC area because of Jim, who was living in Arlington, VA, in the late 90´s. I have been in the area for over 25 years now, made it my home, and raised three children there.
I cannot count the ways he has influenced my life. The most fun weekend I ever experienced was going to the Super Bowl with Jim and our friend Todd in 2012 and seeing how happy he was watching his beloved Giants pull off the Super Bowl upset. Our friend Sean Ryan was one of the Giants coaches, and seeing Jim meet players and go to the parties was like seeing a little kid meet all his heroes. I am not a Giants fan, but for that weekend I was and I am so grateful to have experienced that with him
Jim let me stay at his house over school breaks and treated me like family. I remember when he first met his wife Emily and how he was head over heels for her.
He called me when Liam was born, and stayed at my house with his kids on his way down to Richmond to visit his family.
We must have watched the Empire Strikes Back together dozens of times while hung over on Sunday mornings, and shared deep disappointment over the prequels. Jim flooded my inbox with obscure Star Wars humor over the years, and it always made me laugh.
He loved his children beyond words, and loved his family. The bond between Jim and his brothers and sisters was truly special and a rare thing.
We watched countless Yankee games together, and I am happy he got to see them beat the Red Sox one last time before he left us. We still both blame A-Rod for the bitter 2004 Yankee collapse.
Beyond everything else, I will remember Jim as a great friend. I honestly do not remember ever being so sad. This loss really hurts, and I will miss him terribly,
