Joseph Goetz Obituary

Joseph Aloysius Goetz, 84, of the Town of Lee passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 9, 2023. Born on June 21, 1939, Joe was the fourth son of Margaret Delaney and Edward Goetz Sr. He married Marilyn Chomin on April 30, 1959 and they recently celebrated their 64th anniversary. Joe's proudest accomplishment was his family and he was admired widely for his thoughtful and generous nature.

Joe graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in 1958. Soon after, he began a 50-year career at Bowman Distribution as a sales representative. Joseph was appointed, and later elected, as Lee Town Justice; it was his honor to serve for 35 years.

Joe was active in his community having been a member of St. Joseph's Parish, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, the Polish Independent Club, and the Oneida and New York State Magistrate Associations. He was treasurer of the Lake Delta Little League and served on many committees including the Tug Hill Commission, Catholic School Board, and Parish Council. Depending on the season, Joe could be counted on to ask "How 'bout them Yanks/Giants?" of which he was an avid fan.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his daughters and son-in-law Pamela and Jonathan Levick and Sandra Goetz, his granddaughter and her husband, Alexandra Levick and Spencer Cutler, and his brothers and sisters-in-law Phillip and Maggie Goetz, Paul Goetz, and Bonnie Goetz, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Darlene Convertino, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his son Joseph Jr., his brothers, Edward and Terry, and his sister-in-law, Dolly.

Calling hours will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440, Wednesday, November 15th, from 4-7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center on Thursday, November 16th, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Bill Gavin Food Pantry at St. Joseph's Church or the Lake Delta Fire Department.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Goetz's family. Mr. Goetz was one of the most genuine individuals I had the pleasure to know. He was a role model to me, and I often considered him an additional fatherly figure when growing up and a friend. He will be missed by many and will forever remember him.
