Joseph John Whitmore

Joseph John Whitmore, 57, of Lee Center, NY, passed away, peacefully, at Rome Health, on July 3, 2025, with his family by his side.

Joe was born to the late Joseph Whitmore and Elaine Hyde Whitmore-Carney on March 1, 1968, in Rome, NY.

From a young age, he developed a deep appreciation for the beauty and wonder of the outdoors. Joe was an avid outdoorsman and a true craftsman. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. He loved the challenges and rewards that the natural world offered and shared his passion with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Joe was also a talented carpenter and took so much pride in his work.

Joe was a member of the Lee Legion SAL Post 1794, Lee Center Rod and Gun Club and Aldrich Fish and Game Club.

Joe is survived by his siblings, Norris (Pat) Whitmore, Lee Center, NY, Doug Whitmore, Ava, NY and Millie (Walter) Gawarecki, Lee Center, NY; nieces and nephews, Travis (Kira) Whitmore, Schenectady, NY, Neena (Bryce) Meyers, Enfield, CT, Danielle Whitmore, Whitesboro, NY, Haley (Nathan) Gawarecki, Camden, NY and Keith (Marina) Gawarecki, Lee Center, NY; great-nephews, Arden, Ace, Darryl and Wyatt; stepfather, Joseph Carney, Lee Center, NY; aunt and uncle, James and Sandra Hyde; uncle, Don Whitmore; special cousins, John, Wesley and Marc Hyde; and special friends, David Guglielmo, Annmarie Guglielmo, Lily Conway and the Washburn family.

Joe was predeceased by his mother and father, Joesph Whitmore and Elaine Whitmore-Carney; and many uncles and aunts.

"In keeping with his generous spirit, Joe chose to donate organs and tissues to help others."

Per Joe's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 1 to 3 PM at the Lee Legion Post #1794, 9025 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, Lee Center, if you wish to join the family in honoring his life.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hyde Memorial Fund 9212, State Route 26, Lee Center, NY 13363.
