Leroy Marsden Obituary

Leroy "Lee" Marsden, retired UPD, age 89, of Marcy, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Abraham House in Rome, NY, after a brief illness with his family by his side.

He was born in Utica, on April 14, 1936, a son of the late Leroy and Hilda Kurtelawcz Marsden and was a graduate of UFA. Lee served our country from 1954-1958, in the US Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. On May 23, 1981, he was married to Carol Stagliano, in Utica; a blessed union of 24 years until her death on May 5, 2006. Lee was an Avionics expert, having worked for General Electric and Mohawk Airlines. Lee joined the Utica Police Dept. on September 16, 1964, and served in roles such as investigator and dedicated 30 years of service until his retirement as a Sergeant on April 3, 1995.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, four wheeling and especially snowmobiling. However, his greatest love was his family. They will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Surviving are three sons, Mitchell, Randall and Scott Marsden; two daughters and a son- in-law, Sandy and Bob Ciancaglini and Cyndy Scruggs; one brother, Bill (Irene) Kurtelawcz; his beloved grandchildren, Skot (Luiza) Thayer, Randy Marsden, Tim Marsden and fiancé, Cassie Fedor, Lindsey and John McElroy, Elly Marsden, Heather and Darcy Ward, Andrew Scruggs, Ashley and Elijah Neff, Bobby Ciancaglini and fiancé, Hannah Resendiz and Mia Ciancaglini and fiancé, Carson Schulz; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Carol Stagliano; and many extended relatives and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Jean Marsden.

Visitation will be held this Thursday, June 19 from 11:15 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Upper Mausoleum Chapel in Calvary Cemetery.
