Mary Margaret Nieman

Mary Margaret Nieman, 79, of Holland Patent, passed away, in the early hours, of April 14, 2024, as she was surrounded by the love of her many family members she left behind.

Mary was born on March 24, 1945, to parents Robert Griffin and Mary Lourdes Griffin-Hodinger, in Utica. Growing up, she briefly left Utica Free Academy to take care of her mother, then returned later to graduate and went on to attend the Stenotype Institute of Utica.

In 1966, Mary met the love of her life, Dean Robert Nieman, wasting no time and marrying one another just one year later. Together, they went on to become parents to Mary Elizabeth "Marybeth," James, Kathleen, Michael, Stacy and Thomas.

Throughout her life, Mary opened her heart to raise two generations of children and could always be found gardening and beautifying the facade of her home and crocheting numerous afghan blankets that can be found with her many descendants.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; and three siblings, Robert, Diane and Patricia.

In addition to her six children, Mary leaves her two grandchildren, Alyssa and Karina; and two great-grandchildren, Lorena and Milani. She also leaves three step-grandchildren, Jude, Sloan and Jasper; as well as Kathleen's wife, Paula, Alyssa's husband, Nathan and Jude's partner, Scott; and several nieces and nephews. Mary also leaves her affectionate cat, Cindy and dog, Gizmo, who she considered her pride and joy.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 40 Main Street, Whitesboro, on Friday, April 19. A Funeral Service will be immediately follow visitation at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Anita's Steven Swan Humane Society, in Utica, as their mission aligns with the love and care for animals that Mary shared throughout her life.
