Michael DeCarlo Obituary

Michael DeCarlo, 60, of North Bay, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on Friday, October 27, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rome on September 13, 1963, he was a son of Cosmo and Evelyn (Hewitt) DeCarlo. He was a 1981 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Utica and on December 17, 1982, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served until being Honorably Discharged on December 5, 1986. On December 24, 2003, he was united in marriage to Monica Collins.

Mike worked for several years at Oneida Limited and Sherrill Manufacturing. Outside of his family, his greatest love was music.

Surviving besides his loving wife, Monica, is his mother, Evelyn DeCarlo; two brothers, John DeCarlo (Laurie) and Phil DeCarlo (Heather); brother-in-law, Richard Collins (Sharon); sister-in-law, Amy Uvanni; stepmother-in-law, Ann Collins; special nephew and nieces, Giovanni, Arissa, Aubrey and Amanda; and his cat, Mickey Mouse. He was predeceased by his father, Cosmo.

Mike's family would like to thank Jeannie Day and Amy Uvanni for everything they have done throughout his 26-month battle with cancer; the nurses who helped him with his treatments; the nurses at Oneida Health and Hospice and Palliative Care; Joe Lumia and all of Mike's friends who visited him and helped his family, including Gary Lohr, Skip Talbot, Scott and Tammy Smith, Chris Helt, Susie Murphy and Jeannie and Amy; and Dr. James Vanderhoof for his honesty with Mike and his family.

A little bird broke his wing---

He struggled for 26 months to fly, walk, eat---

As time went on he got weaker and weaker---

Then the biggest storm of all took all the beautiful songs he used to

sing when he flew through the clouds and soared above---

I can still hear his beautiful songs of love and life in my head and in my heart---

He is now in soaring in Heaven, no more broken wing---

No more hurting and struggling---

Never to forget my little bird.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc, 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden NY 13316.

Mike was a special man.....and, of course, God never makes junk. He was kind, generous, silly, funny, a great loveable personality and could eat anything and stay slim...tall, slim and handsome. His wife Monica held his hand and cared for him during these past couple years....they made a beautiful couple....Monica is beautiful......I am praying that all the family and friends can focus on the fact that Mikey is now w/o pain in Heaven, with all who passed before him. One day we'll all meet up!

My deepest condolences to Monica and family. I worked with Mike at Cathedral. It always made my day when I´d see him. His smile and laughter made your day. I was heartbroken to hear of his passing. I was just sorting through some of the many albums he gifted to me the other day. He was always so excited to talk about all the treasures he found. Those albums will mean a lot more to me now. Until we meet again Michael. I´ll be playing those albums loud so you can hear them from heaven. God bless.
