P. Burns Obituary

Robert P. Burns, 39, of Otego, NY and formerly of New Hartford, NY, passed away, unexpectedly, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Otego, NY, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born on March 6, 1985, in New Hartford, NY, a son of Tracey Cornell Burdick and Robert P. Burns Jr. He was a 2004 graduate of New Hartford High School. Robert was employed, at one time, with Rollers Collision, in New Hartford, and later, with the Daily Star Newspaper in Oneonta.

Robert is remembered by his family as a loving and caring father, son, brother, companion and friend, who cherished the time that he spent with his family, especially his adored son, Jackson, who was his everything and his loving companion, Katie. Robert was a very hard working and industrious young man who loved to work on automobiles and motorcycles. In his free time, he enjoyed nature and the outdoors; he especially enjoyed fishing with his good friends. His many acts of kindness and smiling face will be sadly missed by his family members and friends.

Robert is survived by his loving companion, of 16 years, Katherine (Katie) McDonough, of Otego, NY; and his son and pride and joy, Jackson Wesley Burns, also of Otego, NY. He also leaves his mother, Tracey Burdick and her husband, Scott, of Cold Brook, NY; father, Robert P. Burns Jr. and his wife, Dominica, of Utica; brother, Christopher (Josetta) Burns, of Cold Brook; sister, Ashley (Russell) Tabor, of Cold Brook; stepsister, Carol Simpson; many aunts and uncles, including a very special aunt, Lois Rosenkranz, of Laurens, NY; Katie's mother, Judy Bourgeois, of Phelps, NY; Katie's father, Scott McDonough, of Oneonta, NY; Katie's sister and her companion, Michele McDonough and Shawn Balint; his nieces and nephews, Rylee, Aubrey, Celeste and Caleb; and many very special friends. Last but not least, Robert leaves his very special canine companion, "Dixie", who never left Robert's side.

He was predeceased by his close friend, Sean Reilly.

The family will gather for a private Memorial Service. Family and friends are invited to attend a public Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Cold Brook American Legion, 529 Main St., Cold Brook.

Arrangements are with the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit.
