Robert J. Kelly

Robert J. Kelly, 83, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Rome Health. Born in Constableville on February 3, 1942, he was a son of the late James and Helen (Frank) Kelly. On October 12, 1967, he was united in marriage to Mary Gorczyca.

Robert served in the United States Army from 1962-65 during the Vietnam War.

Robert worked along side his son, Jim, as a general contractor for their family business, Kelly Custom Homes. He was an avid hunter and a skilled craftsman and gunsmith, known for his steady hands and creative spirit. He took great joy in making beautiful, thoughtful pieces for his wife, each one a lasting expression of his love and devotion.

From his son, Jim: Beyond being a devoted and caring husband to my mom and a wonderful father, my dad was my best friend. He stood by me through every business endeavor I ever pursued, always ready with advice, guidance, and unwavering support. He was the person I turned to whenever I needed help, and he never once hesitated to be there. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. I love you, Dad. Rest in peace.

Surviving besides his loving wife of 58 years, Mary, is a son and daughter-in-law, James and Christine Kelly; a daughter, Rebecca McGurl; three grandchildren, Jake Denslow, Sarah Muller (AJ), and Dakota Muller; a great-grandson, Noah; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Patsy Brill and Nancy Evans; and a brother, Patrick Kelly.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
