Rochelle Fredsell Obituary
She was born in Utica, on February 25, 1952, a daughter of the late Mortimer and Elsie Cramer Margolyes and was a 1969 graduate of UFA. Rochelle furthered her studies at Alfred University, where she graduated with a BA Degree in English Literature. On May 30, 1986, she was married to Michael Fredsell, a loving and blessed union of 39 years. Rochelle spent her entire life as an educator of English in Special Education. She began her career at JFK High School, for several years, before transitioning to TR Proctor High School, retiring in 2009 after 30 years of dedicated service.
Upon retirement, Rochelle still felt the need to educate, so she worked in the Young Scholars Program at Utica College. She also became a Facility Coach at TR Proctor High School and the Charter School in Frankfort.
Rochelle was beloved by her students, their parents and the entire teaching staff wherever she taught. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her family will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Surviving is her beloved husband, Michael; her two sons, Erik Fredsell and Justin Fredsell; beloved granddaughter, Alana; in-laws, Mary Ann Fredsell, Christine Fredsell, Marty and Michelle Fredsell and Larry and Mary Jo Fredsell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Cynthia Calogero, with whom Rochelle shared a special bond with.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her in-laws, Lawrence and Jane Fredsell.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at The Scala, Roefaro & Karboski Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave., Utica. Prayer services will be at the conclusion of visitation at 7 p.m. Private burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations, in memory of Rochelle, may be made to the American Cancer Society/Breast Cancer Awareness at donate.cancer.org or the Crohns & Colitis Assoc. at www.crohnscolitis.org. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Rochelle was a frequent customer of Symeon´s, & I enjoyed chatting with her over the years. She was genuine & friendly, & we discovered over the years that we had much in common. I´ll miss our chats about life & just random topics. She was truly interested in everyone & everything around her.

I´m deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful person. As a colleague and a friend, she was a gentle guide who helped me grow in so many ways. Her kindness and warmth made a difference not only to me but to every student she touched.
She often spoke so fondly of her family-her two sons, her husband. It was clear how much love and joy filled her life, both at home and in her work.
She was not only an exceptional coach but also a truly special soul who brought laughter and wisdom into every moment. I will always cherish the memories we shared, and I know she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. RIP Rochelle.
