Sara Joyce Williams

UTICA - Sara Joyce Williams, 85, of Utica passed away September 22, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Sara was born March 7, 1940, in Utica, daughter of the late Max and Irene Philipson. She graduated from Utica Free Academy, class of 1958, and attended the Utica School of Commerce.
She married John G. Williams on October 20, 1962, at Grace Episcopal Church, Utica. They shared a loving marriage for 53 years during which she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Sara was employed at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in New Hartford where she retired after many years.
Sara was a member of Grace Church, Utica, where she was an usher and a thrift store volunteer. She also served as a Cub Scout leader.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Gwynne Williams, and her sister, Maxene Gurdo. She is survived by her sons, Christopher J. Williams of Whitesboro, Paul R. Williams of Utica; her grandchildren, Kristen (Josh) Synakowski, Bethany Williams (Daniel Drennen), Katelyn Williams (John Scibior), and Brandon P. Williams; her great-grandchildren, Reagan, Elias, Ella, Andrew, Julianna, Camille, and Sienna; mothers of her grandchildren, Kathryn Williams and Michelle Crouse; her siblings, Sylvia (Walt) Kozyra, David (Lucille) Philipson, and Cheryl Philipson; and many other close family members.
The funeral will be Saturday, September 27, at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Church, Corner of Genesee and Elizabeth Streets, Utica. Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral service, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Grace Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
