Shirley A. (Schwendy) Kalamas

Whitesboro/Glenfield, Boonville

Shirley A. (Schwendy) Kalamas, 93 of Whitesboro, NY, formerly of Glenfield and Boonville, died August 12, 2025 peacefully at her home. She was born September 22, 1931 in Croghan, NY, daughter of Elmer and Ardean Schwendy. She was educated at Father Leo Memorial School in Croghan.

She married John Kalamas October 6, 1961. They were married for 37 wonderful years. She worked for Mildred's Store and Key Bank in Lowville, retiring in 1986 when she moved to Boonville to live with her daughter. She was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Whitesboro and the Catholic Women's Club of Christ Our Hope Church in Boonville.

Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband and family including Myrtle Beach, Hawaii and Florida. She spent many hours knitting preemie hats, baby blankets, lap robes for nursing homes and afghans for family and friends. She loved gardening, baking and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving daughter Cynthia (Barry) Damsky, Whitesboro, daughter-in-law Sue Widrick, Calcium, step-daughter Nancy (Tom) Smith, Pennsylvania; ten cherished grandchildren, Melissa (Chris), Deane, Mike (Amanda), Sarah, Nathan (Cassie), Andrew (Rebecca), Elizabeth (Robert), Tina, Heather and Kelly; nine beloved great-grandchildren, Tristin, Greyson, Beckett, Preston, Kyle, Malia, Avaia, Mason and Carson; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friends Jerry and Rosemary Crouse of Boonville. She sponsored a child, Melanie of Guatemala through Unbound.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John who passed away September, 1998; step-father Richard Oley; son Wayne Widrick; brother Elmer Schwendy and sister Helen Wilmot.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Monday August 18, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Whitesboro with the Rev. John Canorro officiating. There are no public calling hours the family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass. Interment will be private in Beaches Bridge Cemetery in Watson, NY. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 40 Main St. Whitesboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's Catholic Church, 16 Park Ave, Whitesboro, NY, or Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corp., 7489 E. South St. Clinton, NY 13323.
