Steven Edward Roczen, 76, of Barneveld passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, November 9, 2023.

He was born on October 10, 1947 in Utica, son of the late Edward and Julia (Baszko) Roczen. He was a 1965 graduate of Whitesboro High School and went on to learn the skill of automotive body repair while also serving six years in the Army National Guard as a Military Policeman. On April 12, 1969, he married Ellen St. Denis at St. Mary's of the Snows in Otter Lake. They first lived in Woodgate and Remsen, then he built their home in Barneveld NY in 1978 where they went on to raise their 10 children.

Beginning his career as an automotive body repairman, Mr. Roczen started his own business in 1971 named "Steve's Collision" located in Barneveld. He continued that business for many years until he accepted a position with Empire Airlines in 1980 working in ground maintenance. Through the next decade, he worked for Piedmont and USAir as Director of Ground Maintenance. Mr. Roczen then accepted a position in 1991 with Holland Patent Central School Transportation Department where worked until his retirement in August of 2009.

Steve is survived by his wife Ellen St. Denis Roczen and his sister Stephanie (Michael) Basile. He leaves his children, Dean, Jeffrey, Molly (Steven) Ballard, Virginia (Dale) Yerman, Nicholas (Kimberly), Lance (Jaime), Camille (Daniel) Noonan, Nathan (Marilyn), and Bethany (Devon) Henry. He leaves his grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Ballard; Katherine, Evelyn, James, William, Oliver, Anna and Felix Noonan; Madeline, Eliza and Jack Yerman; Scarlett, Prudence, Lucille and Alice Roczen; Gianna Ferguson and Owen Roczen; and Lucas Roczen. He was predeceased by his son Brian A. Roczen on March 10, 2010.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc., 40 Main St. Whitesboro. A private Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at St. Thomas More Church in Utica followed by burial at the family's Fox Hill Cemetery in Trenton.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Oneida, Herkimer and Eastern Madison Counties or the American Cancer Society.

Growing up across the road was the best, Pa Roczen never missed a chance to smile or wave. One of my best memories was camping at Piseco Lake and he opened a can of beans and cooked them right in the fire. Sending prayers and warm thoughts to the whole Roczen family.

Worked with Steve at the bus garage in Holland Patent...great guy!...anytime I had an issue with my bus...I went to Steve...he always knew how to fixit!..he also was an amazing body repair guy...he fixed my brothers car after one of his multiple mishaps...my Mon kept him in business!..he will be missed..RIP Steve...
