BOONVILLE - Sylvia G. Zeigler, 95, widow of Gordon E., longtime resident of Pfendler Road North, passed away on December 7, 2022, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she had most recently resided.
Sylvia was born on October 16, 1927, in West Leyden, a daughter of Peter and Sarah Fey Gydesen. She received her primary education at "Valley School #6", a rural school on Fish Creek Road outside of Constableville, graduating from Constableville High School with the Class of 1945. Sylvia completed her education at SUNY Oswego.
On November 27, 1948, Sylvia was united in marriage with Gordon E. Zeigler at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. Mrs. Zeigler was employed as a telephone operator for Black River Phone Co., retiring from General Telephone in the early 1980's. Sylvia also assisted her husband as a bookkeeper for his excavating business, and worked as a teller for O'Donnell's Western Auto Store, Boonville and also Allen's Jewelry Store, Boonville. For a time, she assisted her son Kevin in his wallpaper store, and also operated "Grand Ma's Attic" an antique store on the village square. Mr. Zeigler, who was a well-known excavator and heavy equipment operator, passed away on October 17, 1984.
Sylvia was a member of Boonville Methodist Church and the Red Hatters Society; she greatly enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of the Thursday Afternoon Bowling League, and a very active member of ACAL. Sylvia also greatly enjoyed attending school activities, especially Adirondack Central School musical events. She cherished watching attending school events which her grandchildren participated in. For many years Sylvia and Gordon greatly enjoyed boating, especially on 4th Lake in the Adirondacks.
Sylvia is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly (Alfred) Giosi, Miller Place, L.I; two sons, Kevin (Terri) and Daryl and daughter-in-law, (Karen), all of Boonville; grandchildren, Erika Seery and husband, Tom, Frankfort, Erin Ingersoll and husband, John, Port Leyden, Emily Macura and husband, Joe, Hartford, NY, Marc Giosi, Brooklyn, NY, Marie Giosi, Glenville, NY, Janel Dievendorf and husband, John, Glenville, NY, Andrew Zeigler and wife, Christine, Colonie, NY, Kate Mastraccio and husband, Frank, Schaghticoke, NY; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Eva Mae (Edward) Swiernik, Turin. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Susan Zeigler; her siblings, Kathleen Bauer, Donald Gydesen, Nelson Gydesen, Haver Gydesen, Lucille (Bootie) Munn and Erma Planck. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia will be fondly remembered as being a very classy lady and a person who was always cheerful and possessed the ability to light up where ever she was. She was a very kind and caring person who is also survived by a host of friends.
Her Funeral will be on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment in Boonville Cemetery and a celebration of her life in the spring.
