Clifford S. Lund was born March 4, 1922, in San Francisco, Calif., to parents Leslie and Carolyn Lund. He passed away peacefully on February 18, 2010, in Auburn, Calif.
Clifford attended Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, Calif., and from 1941-1943, he served in the Merchant Marines, on the troop transport S.S. Monterey. They transported troops throughout the pacific theatre, were involved in the invasion of the Aleutian Islands, and carried troops to Australia, New Zealand, and many other ports. Clifford later enlisted in the U.S. Army, and while in England, he organized the 115th Hospital Company, and established the U.S. Army field hospital in Kassel, Germany during the occupation. Clifford received an Honorable Discharge in 1946, and returned to the U.S. onboard ship, sailing past the Statue of Liberty, as his father had done following World War I.
Clifford married Beverly Michael in May 1944. From 1952-1982, he worked as an insurance broker in San Rafael, Calif., and formed Lund Associates, Inc. Cliff was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Islam Temple of Shrine; Past Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars; President, San Rafael Chamber of Commerce 1967, President, Marin Military Affairs Committee -Hamilton Air force Base; Member, Marin County Grand Jury 1964; Foreman, Marin County Grand Jury 1967; authored Grand Jury manual; President, Exchange Club; President, Marin Estate Planning Council; Member and Chairman, San Rafael Planning Commission; Member, San Rafael Fire Commission; Member, Marin County Land Use Commission; Member, Marin County Selective Service Board; Member, Drug Abuse Bureau; Captain, Marin County Sheriffs Air Patrol; President, Boyd Natural Science Museum.
Throughout his life, Cliff was an avid private pilot, and owned two different airplanes. He and Beverly retired to Nevada City, Calif., in 1982, and later resided in Grass Valley. Recently, they had moved to Auburn. Cliff was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and golf, and traveled the world extensively with his wife. Cliff loved spending time with his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed. Cliff and Beverly were married over 65 years, and raised four children: Steven Forrest (Beverly), Mark Alan (Debbie), Jeffrey Michael (Patricia), and Suzanne Carol. His family also includes seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A private internment will be held at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon, Calif.

Grandpa...I am so saddened and already feel an empty place in my heart. I cherish the relationship we developed over the years and will always have fond memories of our time together and the time you spent with my children. You have left your mark on the world and will never be forgotten. We love you!

Grandpa, we love and miss you so much. You were a great man and head of this great Lund clan. My boys are very fortunate to have had the chance to not only know there great grandpa but to have so many wonderful memories of him. You will be in our hearts and thoughts forever!
