Doris Cochran Obituary

Doris Lea (Soward) Cochran
1/31/1923 - 6/2/2013

Doris Lea (Soward) Cochran, of Roseville, California, passed away on June 2, 2013.
Doris was born in Hominy, Oklahoma to Joseph and Pearl (Kirkendall) Soward on January 31, 1923. In 1944, she graduated from St. Joseph's Nursing Hospital in Ponca City. She married Lloyd Wayne Cochran on May 19, 1944 in Oklahoma City. While raising her three beloved children, she worked as a registered nurse for many years. She was the evening supervisor at Marion General Hospital and, later in her career, the Director of Nursing Services at Emily Flynn nursing home. She was also a member of Red Cross Volunteers of Marion General Hospital, Psi Iota Xi sorority, and Methodist Women of the First United Methodist church.
She lived in Marion, Indiana for fifty years and moved to California for her remaining years. She was proudly independent and able to remain in her home and enjoy her hobbies-oil painting, knitting, and reading novels and biographies-past her 90th birthday. She was an avid sports fan and would never miss watching a Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, or IU Hoosier game. Above all, she was a supportive and caring mother, wife, sister, and grandmother who took the greatest joy in seeing her family happy.
She is survived by her daughters, Leslie Allen and Joy Tiffany; son-in-laws, Gary Allen and Jim Tiffany; and daughter-in-law, Carla Cochran; sisters, Billie Lewis and Joaquin Douglas; grandchildren, Tina Froelinger, Aaron Brudenell, Lisa Tiffany, Rhiannon Emery, and Rebecca Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Jon Protzman, Rachel Protzman, Madeline Katapodis, Juliet Perry, Nicholas Froelinger, Estela Vesga, Sylvie Vesga, Ericah Emery and Easton Emery.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Cochran; her only son, Rick Cochran; and her sister, Tess Harris.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 29, 2013 at Global Tapas, Granite Bay at 12:00 pm.
