Barbara Gambino Obituary

Barbara B. Gambino 1928—2017
Barbara B. Gambino of Rockford passed away on May 11, 2017. She was born October 16, 1928, in Freeport, IL, to parents Alfred and Gertrude Brockmeier. She graduated from East High School and the University of Illinois, Phi Beta Kappa. She worked as a speech therapist in the Deerfield and Rockford Public Schools. Barbara served on the boards of Rockford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Rockford Day Nursery, Rockford Women's Club, Junior League of Rockford, Alpha Chi Sorority and Second Congregational Church. She was a member of Rockford Country Club and the University Club. Barbara married Joseph F. Gambino on June 28, 1952, in Rockford at Second Congregational Church; he predeceased her in 2004. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Pat (Dave) Varland of Rockford, Chris (Mike) Bishop of Burr Ridge, and Karen (Bob) Westrick of LaGrange; 5 granddaughters, Laura, Sarah, Alison, Lisa and Amy; 1 great-granddaughter, Louisa; and brother, Edward Brockmeier of Lone Tree, CO.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Second Congregational UCC/First Presbyterian Church, 318 N. Church St. Rockford, IL 61101 with Rev. Rebecca White Newgren officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Memorials to Second Congregational UCC/First Presbyterian Church.
