Barent Johnson Obituary

BARENT O. JOHNSON, 87 ROCKFORD - Barent O. Johnson, 87, of Rockford died at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born June 23, 1923, in Jonkoping, Sweden, the son of Bengt and Esther (Asp) Johnson. Graduated from East High School, Class of 1941. He later went into the U.S. Army and served in World War II from 1943 to 1946. Married Elizabeth V. Ericson on June 2, 1951, in Rockford. Worked at Sundstrand Corp. in quality control for 26 years. He then began a teaching career in Rockford School District 205 and retired in 1989. Barent was a member of Unitarian Universalist Church, Phi Delta Kappa-emeritus, Sundstrand Retirees of Illinois, Retired Teachers Association, NEA/IEA/ REA, Swedish Historical Society, Midway Village, NIBS, Arts Council, and many other local art groups. Survived by wife, Elizabeth V.E. Johnson of Rockford; daughters, Ann Arellano of Lombard and Susan (William) Taber of California; grandsons, Benjamin Arellano of Lombard, Andrew of Denver and Alexander Taber of Boston; sister, Charlotte "Lottie" Burch of Rockford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by parents; and sister, Britten (Joseph) Osheel. Memorial service at 11a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Unitarian Universalist Church, 4848 Turner St., Rockford, with visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m.; the Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson-Doyle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Unitarian Universalist Church. Arrangements made by Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C.
