Carl Orson Persson 1931—2017
Carl Orson Persson, 86, of Belvidere, IL, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 1, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Belvidere, Illinois on May 21, 1931, to Emil Ray and Elisabeth (Howe) Persson. Carl lived his entire life in his beloved town with the exception of the time spent in service to his country as a United States Marine. Carl was a loyal family man who enjoyed fishing with his family and friends. He worked for Dean Foods for nearly 45 years at the ice cream plant located in Belvidere. In his spare time, Carl enjoyed working around the home, gardening and canning, camping, volunteering for local organizations and served on the advisory boards for the Belvidere Moose, the American Legion and most recently the Belvidere Community Building. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially basketball. Carl was the proud father of a daughter and three sons he had with Norma. Carollyn Underhill of Springfield, MO, Jim (Jamie) Persson, of Roscoe, IL, Harvey (Peggy) Persson of Fort Worth, TX and Steve (Rachel) Persson of Wilmington, OH. Carl also loved and cared for Velora's daughters, Connie, Bonnie and Janet, as well as the extended family of each. He was loved and will be missed by his sister, Helen Huftalin, of Belvidere, sister-in-law, Shirley Persson of Belvidere, as well as his loving children, grandchildren, Steve Nofsinger of Rockford, IL, Bradley Persson, Erik Persson, Michael Persson and Katie Persson of Wilmington, OH, several nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma; second wife, Velora; brother, Howard (Shirley); brother-in-law, Harvey (Helen) Huftalin; and nephews, Ray and David. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Belvidere Funeral Home Inc., in Belvidere, IL. Funeral service will begin at noon at the funeral home. Interment at the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, IL. Memorial donations may be made in Carl's name to the Hospice Care of America, 3815 North Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61114.
