Frank Cassioppi Obituary

Frank Cassioppi 1917—2017
Frank Cassioppi, 99, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 1, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Alden Debes Healthcare Center. Frank was born March 27, 1917, to Andrew and Margaret (Guasto) Cassioppi. Frank married Lucy Di Raimondo on June 19, 1948, in Rockford, IL. They were married for 68 wonderful years and had two children. From 1950-1959, he owned Shoppers Grocery Store on 7th St. & 5th Ave. Following this, he was employed at Aquamatic and wired control panels until his retirement. In his retirement years, he enjoyed rooting for the Chicago Cubs and making stained glass lamps and hangings. Frank was an avid traveler and took trips all around the world with his beloved wife and sister-in-law. These trips included China, Germany, France, Italy, and countless road trips to 48 states. Frank loved spending time with his family and treasured them deeply. When you got a hug from Frank, you could feel just how much he cared about you. He was the most gentle and loving soul. Frank is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucy Cassioppi of Rockford; daughter, Denise Schmitt of Milwaukee, WI; son, Mark (Rosann) Cassioppi; granddaughter, Gina (Tony) Barr; great-grandson, Logan Barr, all of Janesville, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased in death by his parents; brother, Anthony Cassioppi; sister-in-law, Loretta Di Raimondo; and son-in-law, Tom Schmitt. The family would like to thank the caring individuals of Northern Illinois Hospice and Alden Debes Healthcare Center for all of the compassionate work they did for Frank.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in St. Bernadette's Church. Entombment to follow in Calvary Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until service time in the church. Arrangements are with Gasparini & Oliveri Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Dear Lucy, Mark, Denise and family,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I can vividly remember Frank as a positive and kind gentleman, and I am proud to know that he was my cousin. Whenever I saw Frank and Lucy it seemed to be at funerals, and the last time I saw him at, I believe at Tony's funeral he gently let me know that he and I were the only two left from the children of our grandfather Frank. I only hope that in my time that is left I can lead an exemplary life such as Frank's.

Unfortunately Cindi and I will not be at the funeral! Our garage door spring broke this morning and can't get it fixed until later. We were also getting ready to travel to Duluth Minnesota where our niece lives to go to the funeral of her husband Jeff who got trapped in their home that became engulfed in flames. The heat was so intense that the only thing they found was his wedding ring. Sad! Wonderful man, and wonderful family. It makes two of God's children who now have left us, and we shall all feel the impact on our lives. May the Lord bless you and keep you and comfort you for all the days of your lives.

Love Frank & Cindi Guasto
