Gladys Mincemoyer

GLADYS MINCEMOYER, 93 ROCKFORD - Gladys Emelia Mincemoyer, 93, of Rockford went home to be with her Lord at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Community. Born July 9, 1916, in Rockford, the daughter of Martin R. and Wendla J. (Anderson) Sandberg. Graduate of Rockford High School, Class of 1935. Married Richard E. Mincemoyer on Aug. 12, 1941; he died Feb. 19, 2010. Co-owner with her husband of Mincemoyer Jewelry. Retired in 1998. Member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Prior to joining Our Savior's, Gladys was a Sunday school teacher and choir member at Zion Lutheran Church. She was active in the Church Women's Hanna Circle, Golden Age Board, Confirmation Club, and several other church committees. In 1933 she started the youth newsletter, "Grape Vine", which is still active at Zion today. Gladys was also a Cub Scout den mother for several years. Survived by children, Norman R. (Mary) Mincemoyer, Raymond E. (Willa) Mincemoyer and Jean A. (David) Alfredson, all of Rockford; grandchildren, Scott (Mary), Missy (Terry), Wendy (Pat), Christy (Mark), Stacey (Charlie), Heather (Nathaniel), Trisha (Brian) and David (Amy); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many cousins in Sweden. Predeceased also by sisters, Margaret and Vivian. Special thanks to the staff at Fairhaven for their loving care. Service at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in Olson Funeral and Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with visitation from 1 to 1:45 p.m.; the Rev. Norm Collins will officiate. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials to the family for memorials to be established for Fairhaven Christian Retirement Community and the Swedish Historical Society.
