GREGORY ALAN WILHELM, 67 CHERRY VALLEY - Gregory Alan Wilhelm, 67, Cherry Valley, Illinois passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015, at University of Wisconsin Hospital, in Madison. He was born December 11, 1948, in Evansville, Indiana; the son of Warren and Emma (Klass) Wilhelm. Greg lived his life as an educator as a calling. He served as a teacher and administrator in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation for 35 years. In addition, Greg was a coach to students in wrestling and golf. After moving to the Rockford, IL area in 2004, Greg served as the principal of St. James Catholic School in Belvidere until 2014, after which he became principal of St. Josephs Catholic School in Harvard, IL for the 2014-15 school year. As principal of these schools, he cared for the students, parents and the staff as he would care for family. He invested his life in his students by walking alongside them; teaching, encouraging and helping to point them in the way they should go. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and by his extended school family. As a confessed follower of Jesus Christ, he is now at home with His Lord and Savior. His survivors include his siblings; Dr. Cynthia Wilhelm (Dr. James Hilkey), Jeff (Phoebe) Wilhelm; sister-in-law, Susan Wilhelm; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, and brother, Dr. Warren Wilhelm Jr. A visitation in Rockford, IL will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, December 28th, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road. The burial service will take place in Evansville, IN. Visitation in Evansville will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 4th, at Ziemer Funeral Home, 800 South Hebron Avenue. The burial mass will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 5th, at St. Benedicts Catholic Church, 1328 Lincoln Ave. Internment following the mass at St. Josephs Cemetery, Evansville, IN.
