Helen Ackland Obituary

HELEN A. ACKLAND, 92 CHANA - Helen A. Ackland, 92, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, in her home in Hillcrest. Born Sept. 24, 1916, on the Canfield Farm near Chana, the daughter of William and Emma (Canfield) Butler. She attended Chana School and Rockford Business College. She formerly worked for Del Monte Foods in Rochelle in the employment office and then was a secretary for the engineers department. She also worked as a cook for the Chana School. Helen was married to John Haase before his death in 1957, and then to Robert Ackland, who also preceded her in death. Active member of Chana United Methodist Church, including serving as church historian and the UMW of the church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survived by sons, Neil (Della) Haase of Farmer's Branch, Texas, and Paul (Betty) Haase of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Brent (Barbara) Haase, Loren (Kim) Haase, Jill (Ryan) Clark and John Haase; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Amanda, Dalton, Cameron, Ashley, Jordan, Brandon and Erin. Predeceased also by parents; grandson, Greg Haase; brothers, Paul and William Butler; and sister, Marion Herrmann. Service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in Chana United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rich Fassig officiating. Burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery near Chana. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon. Memorials to Chana United Methodist Church. Helen was a great lady. We were Helen's neighbor for 10 years on Woolf Court. Our oldest son spent lots of time with Helen picking cherry's in her back yard, visiting and raking leaves with her. We moved 10 years ago and have thought of her often over the years.
