Herbert Mauser Obituary

Herbert Mauser 1933—2016
Herbert J. Mauser, 82, of Metamora passed away at 4 a.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Snyder Village. Herb was born March 20, 1933, in Peoria to the late Peter and Maria (Daiser) Mauser. He married Arlene Anne Agan on June 28, 1958, in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Kenneth (Amy) of Peoria and Gregory of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kara (Nicholas) Kogelman of Saline, Mich., and Eric (Abigail) Mauser of Hilliard, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Eleanore Ary of Cummings, Ga.; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant nephew. Herb graduated from Spalding Institute in 1951, and while in high school honed his work skills at Hunts drive-in as a carhop. He later served with the Army Engineers Corp in Korea and Okinawa from 1953 to 1955. He was also a Caterpillar Machinist Apprentice graduate and received his BS in Industrial Technology from Bradley University in 1960. He was employed in Rockford by Sundstrand Machine Tool Company (later White-Sundstrand) and Ingersoll Milling Machine Company. He was a life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in the Rockford and Peoria chapters. After retirement, Herb enjoyed attending estate and garage sales in search of prized duck decoys for his collection. Favorite family vacations included trips to the "Northwoods" of Wisconsin for fishing and relaxation. He also looked forward to the grandchildren visit for a week each summer. He was proud of his German heritage and was in close contact with relatives in Germany and made several trips to visit them over the years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Metamora, a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Rockford and St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Snyder Village for their excellent and compassionate care provided to Herb.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father Jacob Valle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass and burial of ashes will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Rockford. Memorials may be made to Snyder Village in Metamora, Illinois. Dear Arlene, Please accept my late condolences on the death of your husband. I did not see the obituary until today. I enjoyed seeing you and Herb out to eat in Metamora many times. You were very good to him and need to take good care of yourself now. Sincerely, Janet Hoffer (SVRC)

Since Herb and I lived a short distance apart on University in Peoria we spent some time together at each others houses.I still marvel at the condition of the Mauser home to this day and still recall the inside layout. I still remember the pontiac convertible that he had. We are snowbirding in Florida and will not get back to Peoria until the end of April.

Herb and my brother John Maggio were very good high school buddies and Herb spent a lot of time at our house and with our family. He was always so polite and pleasant that everyone enjoyed his company, even our grandmother. I remember seeing Herb with his mother and father at St. Philomena's church often. I am sure his family, sister and friends will certainly miss Herb....such an example of one of the "good" guys.
