James Seeberg Obituary

JAMES LARRY SEEBERG, 80 ASHTON - James Larry Seeberg, 80, of Ashton, passed away April 15, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon Illinois. He was born July 6, 1932, in Rockford IL; to the late Carl and Pauline (Pundt) Seeberg. After graduating from East High School in Rockford, he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years in the Korean War as a radio operator. He married Arlene Buman on August 18, 1956, in Galena IL, and happily married for 56 years. He served on the Ashton town board, the Ashton Fire Department for several years, and 10 years as Fire Chief, St John's Lutheran Church Council and 28 years on the Lee County Board, serving terms both as Finance Chairman and County Board Chairman. He also served 9 years as Financial Chairman on the Northwest Illinois Criminal Justice Commission. He retired from Prudential Insurance Company in 1989 after 23 years of service. Jim will always be remembered for his humor and wit, often referring to himself as sweet, nice and lovable. He loved community involvement and service. He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene of Ashton; daughters, Cynthia (Dan) Torrisi of Belvidere and Wendy Seeberg of Amboy. His two precious grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Williams of Forreston and Alexandra Torrisi of Belvidere; 1 sister, Marcia Fick of Addison; brother-in-law, Ronald Wicks of Camarillo, CA; and many nieces and nephews whose company he greatly enjoyed. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Lori and his sister, Pat. Special thanks to the Kathy Clark, the Franklin Grove Rehabilitation staff, the comfort care nurses, Joy and Beth at the KSB hospital. Visitation will be Thursday April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beverage- Lyons Family Funeral Home Ashton, IL. Funeral service will be Friday April 19, at 11 a.m. at St John's Lutheran Church in Ashton, IL, with the Rev. Jonathon Black officiating. Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the Funeral Service. Interment to follow at the Ashton Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Lutheran World Relief in Jim's name.

I worked with Jim at Prudential. What a wonderful guy. I was a rookie and he made so so much fun of me. GREAT sense of humor. They don't make many like him. I'm sorry for your loss. They don't make many better.

Diane and I are sending our condolences on Jim's passing. Although we haven't seen you all for some time we've never forgotten the good times we had together and it'll be very hard to believe that Jim is gone. So sorry we can't be there for his service.
