Joan Becknell Obituary
Joan Becknell passed from this earth into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, October 10, 2016, at the Christian Community Home of Osceola, Wisconsin, at the age of 86. She was born August 21, 1930, in Rockford, Illinois to Lloyd and Jeannette (Mulford) Fry, Sr. Joan graduated from East Rockford High School in 1948, and later received a B.S. from Rockford College. On April 12, 1958, Joan was united in marriage to Frederick Becknell at Centennial United Methodist Church and shared 58 years together. Her careers in Rockford include restauranteur (Copper Dome), public school art teacher, artist (Gallery 10) and was also the founder of Kids Club at her church. Joan and Fred enjoyed music, theater and travels to Florida, Europe and Hawaii. Joan also traveled to Beijing, China with the University of Minnesota to study Chinese painting and calligraphy for 8 weeks. In 1999, Joan and Fred moved to Osceola, Wisconsin where they joined the Osceola United Methodist Church. Joan loved her church, the Osceola community and friends where she continued teaching as a substitute and volunteer work. She especially loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren living in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Joan is survived by her husband, Frederick; children, Beth (Ted) Kenseth and June (Tom) Wynne; grandchildren, Heidi Waterstraat, Holly (Steve) Simundson, Dallas (Alison) Wynne, Jeannette (Dave) Wielenberg and Sarah (Seth) Duncan; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Lloyd (Leona) Fry Jr; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Jeannette Fry, and sisters, Sally (Vic) Barnard and Jeannette (Turk) Johnson.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016, at the Osceola United Methodist Church in Osceola, Wisconsin. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at a later date. Arrangements are with the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Osceola, WI. www.grandstrandfh.com

Mrs. Becknell was my CAPA art teacher at Wilson. I have never had the talent for drawing but did well in other areas. She always supported me and celebrated how "abstract" my work was. At the age of 42 I've still held onto my terrible drawings and painting. God bless her soul.

Joan truly was a 2nd Mom to us growing up on S.3rd St. Rockford, Illinois. We have many fond memories of her, Fred, Beth & June living upstairs from us. One memory that comes to mind is when she and our Mother drove our Green VW Bus to Seneca, South Carolina to pick up me & Cindy after a summer visit to Nono Tony & Gramma Frances. May we all celebrate a her life during this time of sorrow.

I'm saddened to hear of your loss.. Joan use to watch over me while Mom worked I considered Joan as our second Mom growing up down stairs from she and Fred on South Third Street she had the most wonderful attitude about life. She will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have met her.
Frank could have not said it any better. She truly was a 2nd Mom to us Guzzardo Kids. We have so many good memories of her, Fred, Beth & June.
