Joan Johnson

JOAN L. JOHNSON ROCKFORD - Joan Louise (Howe) Johnson formerly of Mystic, Iowa, passed away peacefully Monday, July 23, 2012, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, surrounded by her children. She was a graduate of Mystic High School, Class of 1948. Joan worked at Sears Service Center in Rockford until her retirement in 1997. On July 11, 1953, she was joined in marriage to Leslie C. Johnson; who preceded her in death. The couple enjoyed a blessed union of 58 years filled with love and devotion. Joan was an avid Chicago Bulls fan never missing a game during the season. Joan enjoyed trips to the casinos playing slots, and word search games to keep her mind sharp. Joan was an accomplished pianist/vocalist and in her early years recorded a rendition of "The Lord's Prayer". She will be fondly remembered by her children for the many wonderful cross country adventures the family experienced including trips to Yellowstone Park, World Expo 67 and Disneyland, and trips with her grandchildren and family to The Dells, Mall of America and Lancaster, Pa. Joan will be greatly missed by her loving family, daughter, Jackie and Bill Hatfield of Rockford; son, James and Marianna of Delaware; her cherished grandchildren, Paige Johnson, Kyle (Taryn) Martin, and Jonathan (Casey) Martin; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (Howe) and Ron Morrisson of Texas; and sister-in-law, Helen Howe of Iowa. Predeceased by brothers, James Howe who was killed in the Korean War and Orville (Junior) Howe of Iowa. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in Sundberg Funeral Home Ltd., 215 N.
