John Bengtson

JOHN E. BENGTSON, 86 ROCKFORD - John E. Bengtson, 86, Rockford, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013. He was born in Rockford on August 16, 1926: the son of Iver and Ellen (Johnson) Bengtson. John attended East High School and graduated in 1944. He married Dorothy Dennick on March 18, 1949, she preceded him in death in 1999. John served as Captain of the Rockford Fire Department for 30 years until his retirement. He also owned Bengtson Rytlatt Tax Service for more than 20 years. John had a passion for fishing and spent his retired years at Lake Sherwood in Wisconsin, and over 50 years fishing with friends and family in Minnesota. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the L.L.L. Club. John is survived by his children, Neal (Debbie) Bengtson and Mary Kay Mcbride of Rockford, IL; closest friends, Mary Lou (Randy) Nyman and family; brother, Glenn Bengtson; sister-in-law, Jane Bengtson; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; brother, Thorsten Bengtson; sister-in-law, Ruth Bengtson. Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Reverend Bobby Sheets officiating.
