John W. Cederstrom 1924—2017
John W. Cederstrom, 93, of Rockford, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017. He was born July 13, 1924, in Rockford, the son of Emil Arthur and Edna Christine (Peterson) Cederstrom. John was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1942, and later received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. A United States Army veteran who served in WWII in "Patton's Army", Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart. He worked as an aeronautical engineer at Sundstrand for 36 years. John married Betty Coyer on October 9, 1948. She predeceased him on August 7, 1958. He later married Gloria (Larson) Rowley on July 27, 1974, in Rockford. He was an active member at Bethesda Covenant Church. Survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Dr. Susan (Noel Torgerson) Cederstrom of Newport Beach, CA, Peggy (Bruce) Knutson of Oklahoma City, OK, and David Cederstrom of Verona, WI; Gloria's children, Susan (Duane) Wilke of Rockford, Timothy (Colleen) Rowley of Rockford, and Barbara (Howard) Beck of Micanopy, FL; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by sister, Doris Johnson; infant sister, Priscilla Cederstrom; daughter-in-law, Nancy Eichinger; and Gloria's daughter, Pam DeJesus–Edwards.
Private graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, in Scandinavian Cemetery. Following will be a memorial service held at 11 a.m. in Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State Street, Rockford, IL, with Reverend David Wood officiating. Family prefers memorials be made to Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State Street, Rockford, IL 61104.
