John MacGowan Obituary

JOHN JAY MACGOWAN, 58 BELVIDERE - John Jay MacGowan, 58, of Belvidere died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born Aug. 8, 1953, in Beloit, Wis., son of Robert and Jean (Buss) MacGowan. Married Candi Burton on Oct. 13, 1984, in Rockton. Member of the Masonic Lodge of Belvidere No. 60 and John Hugo Kaiser VFW Men's Auxiliary. He was the drummer for the Union Pacific Show Band, and enjoyed boating and spending time at his cottage on Lake Koshkonong. Survived by his loving wife, Candi; sister, Bonnie (Ralph) Elliott of Arizona; brothers, Mac (Julia) MacGowan of Arizona, Alan (Pat) of Walworth, Wis., and Robert MacGowan of Beloit; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents. Service at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in the funeral home. Burial at a later date in Shopiere Cemetery, Wisconsin. John you will be greatly missed, you have always been an inspiration to me with your involvment in music and your kind demeanor. I can remember as a little boy going to see you play at the Walworth Fair with your band and that moment being a life changing time. You will always be in my mind, and thank you for the time that I was able to spend with you.
