John Widergren Obituary
John F. Widergren, 89, of Rockford, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018. He was born in Rockford October 31, 1928, to Fred and Ruth (Carlson) Widergren. After graduating from East High in 1946, he attended Beloit College and married a classmate, Dorothy "Darry" Ritter in 1950. After teaching in an Iowa high school, he served in the army during the Korean War as a medic. On his return, he received a Master's Degree at the University of Iowa and later a Doctorate from the University of Wyoming, both in Educational Administration. He then served in several schools and universities including overseas work in the Philippines and India, returning to Rockford to retire. Survived by his wife; children, Paul (Carolann Gratton) Widergren, Kathryn Peterson, James (Denise) Widergren, and Karen Watase; grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Diane, Kyle, Kevin, Cynthia, Nicole and Karen; and several great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, at Second-First Church of Rockford, 318 N Church St, with Rebecca White Newgren officiating.
