Dear Fred and Highbarger family,

You have my sincere simpathy in the loss of your dad. Bus was a special person, always kind and considerate of others. It was always a joy to talk with him and to hear what he was doing. As you know, Bus enjoyed making things and giving them away to friends (or selling them). In August, he gave me one of his planter plate flowers and it is in a place of honor by the back door of the house at the farm.

The last time that Bus and I spent some time together was in August when we went to Farm & Fleet together. He said he needed to get his mower to them and needed a wider trailer, so I offered to be there on that Saturday morning to take it for him. We had a nice time together and he shared how much he appreciated his family and their help. -- I think it was you, Fred, that also helped him with the mower and enjoyed or, perhaps most understood, his appreciation for hunting and fishing.

My wife and I live in Normal but spend some time most every weekend at what is now my farm just East of Bus. He will be greatly missed. We appreciated his friendship and integrity. He was always a gentleman and one of the Greatest Generation.

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. He was such a sweetheart. When my son was young, your Dad got him started in the rabbit business. Thinking of you all at the time. My prayers and thoughts are with you

To my cousins and their families,
I was sad to hear the news of my Uncle Bus, who was also my Godfather, passing. It was good to know that he had a perfect day of playing cards and winning, eating treats and enjoying friends prior to his passing. I know my Dad (Bill) and all the others must have had one super card party when Bus arrived! The immediate family is all gone now and it is very poignant to think about that.
I will not be able to come back to Illinois for the funeral but I will be there in thought and prayers for each of you.
