Mae Johnson Obituary

MAE CHARLOTTE JOHNSON, 87 ROCKFORD - Mae Charlotte Johnson, 87, a lifelong resident of Rockford, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born May 12, 1925, in Rockford; the daughter of Hjalmar F. and Anna M. (Nystrom) Johnson. Graduate of East Rockford High School class of 1943, then worked in the school library after graduation. Mae started as a secretary for Beaver Gear Works in 1945 and retired as an executive secretary in 1990 from the same company, then named BVR Aerospace Precision. An active member of Temple Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher in the primary department for 40 years. She also sang in the church choir for many years and was on the Library Committee. She is survived by her sister, Beverly (Paul) Dahlstrom of Rockford; nieces, Elizabeth "Cookie" (Roger) Carlson of Stillman Valley and Judy (Richard) Huffington of Rockford; nephews, Gerald P. "Jerry" (Mary) Carlson Fred Peterson, James R. Erickson, David Dahlstrom, all of Rockford, Steven (Sue) Dahlstrom of Cherry Valley, and Mark (Sally) Dahlstrom of Winnebago; and numerous great-nephews and nieces and great-great-nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Roy L. Johnson and twin Marshall H. Johnson; infant sister, Ruth; and sisters, Frances I. Johnson, Edith Erickson, Doris Peterson. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, in Temple Baptist Church, 3215 E. State St., with the Rev. Dr. Bill Patterson officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, or to Child Evangelism Fellowship, 2411 13th Ave., Rockford, IL 61108.
