Marian Clark Obituary
Marian Schwab Clark, 97, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017, at CherryVale Place Assisted Living. Born September 9, 1920, in Belvidere, IL, daughter of Otto and Wilhelmena (Schult) Koch. An honor graduate of Belvidere High School in 1938, she pursued her love of humanities and business studies. In 1939, Marian married Roy D. Howard. During WWII years she served as chief clerk of War Price & Rationing Board, Boone County. Roy Howard died in 1945. She worked in 1945 for Boone County Real Estate Titles and was secretary to various businesses in Boone County. She married Ward W. Schwab in 1948. They moved to Columbia, MO where Schwab was a teacher at Christian College. They returned to Belvidere, IL where Schwab was a teacher at Belvidere High. The marriage ended in 1954. Marian then was a sales representative for the Rockford Newspaper classified advertising from 1954-1959. At Rockford College, she studied real estate appraisal and joined the JB & Loren Whitehead firm. In 1959, she received the Rockford Realtor Outstanding Real Estate Award. In 1964, with her assistance of her son, Dale E. Howard, she opened her real estate office: Marian Schwab Realtors on 1016 Charles Street. She married Philip H. Clark (Clark Realtors) in 1974. Further awards for ability ended in her becoming the first woman president of Rockford Real Estate Board in 1975. Phil and Marian managed separate real estate offices for 6 years, then merged. She retired in 1986. They enjoyed traveling and golf. Phil died in 2012. Marian is loved and will be missed by her son, Dale (Judy) Howard; granddaughters, Lisa (Ron) Witalka, Kerri (Dave) Dennis; and great-granddaughter, Lindsay Kornau. She is preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd., Belvidere, IL 61008, with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. She was a true leader in Real Estate! She had a great office and she had the best ads for real estate ever. I think she won the "Classy" award from the Register Star many years in a row. (I think that was the name of the award or close to it.)
She did alot for women just starting out in Real Estate. A true pioneer.
