Muriel C. (Anderson) Boyd 1927—2017
Muriel C. (Anderson) Boyd, 89, of Roscoe, lost her battle against ALS on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Muriel was born December 6, 1927; in Rockford to Floyd "Vic" and Mildred (Johnson) Anderson. She was a 1945 graduate of East High School. A lifelong member of Bethesda Covenant Church, she chaired the Bethesda Missionary Society and was a member of the choir for 60 years. Muriel was an extraordinary artist sharing her talent to all including as an arts and craft volunteer at the Goldie Floberg Children's Center, and sending individual hand-painted Christmas cards every year. Her specialty was capturing nature in water colors and she hand carved and painted decoys. Muriel married Gene R. Boyd on August 28, 1948, and enjoyed a loving, caring relationship for 69 years. She was the central communication hub of a very large extended family and researched and created genealogies dating beyond 200 years. She is survived by her loving husband, Gene; sisters, Gloria Meli of Rockford and Jennine Derix of Sarasota, FL; children, Bennett (Lisa) Boyd of Paducah, KY, Bradley (Debbie) Boyd of Argyle, IL, and Bonnie (Hank Kornelius) Boyd of Lake Sherwood, MO; grandchildren, Dylan Boyd, Derek Boyd, Collin Boyd and Shannon Daily; great-grandchildren, Annika Boyd, Bailey Boyd, Blake Daily and Ethan Daily; along with 8 nephews and 3 nieces. Predeceased by her parents; and granddaughter, Hannah Leigh Boyd.
Come and celebrate Muriel's life with the family. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2017, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at Bethesda Covenant Church, 2104 E. State St., Rockford, with Rev. David Lindfors officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park.
