Richard Charles Korn 1927—2016
Richard Charles Korn, 88, of Sycamore died Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He was born December 8, 1927, in Sycamore; the son of Charles and Emma (Oeser) Korn. He graduated from the Kingston High School, Class of 1945. He married Laurena Ann Lindgren on May 1, 1954, in Sycamore; she died July 24, 1984. He later married Beatrice L. Carlson Lanan on October 5, 1985, in Genoa. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Army engineers during WWII. He was a life member of Bayard Brown, Post 337 American Legion, member of the Voiture 207 of the 40/8, Sycamore Moose Lodge 1506, Genoa Masonic Lodge 288 AF&AM, Scottish Rites Valley of Freeport, Tabala Shrine of Rockford, the DeKalb County Shrine and Teamster Retirees Local #325. He was employed as a Teamster for 38 years, having driven for the Wurlitzer Co. in DeKalb for 20 years and then retired from A&B Freight Line in Rockford in 1984. After which becoming a volunteer driver for Med-Vac in DeKalb for a number of years, delivered for Hospice and also drove for the DeKalb County VA, taking people to medical appointments. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Korn of Sycamore; 3 children, Vicki (Dale) Furlough of Kirkland, Karen Metcalf of Deming, NM and Russell Korn (Ruza Jovanovic) of Palatine; 3 stepchildren, Bernard (Vivian) Lanan of St. Charles, Jerel (Katherine) Lanan of League City, TX and Patricia (Luke) Morton of Sycamore; 3 grandchildren, Richard Furlough, Jeremy Fry and Angela Anderson; 3 great-grandsons; 4 great- granddaughters; 4 step-grandchildren; and 6 step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Laurena; one brother, Dennis; and son-in-law, Paul Metcalf.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28th, at Faith United Methodist Church, 325 S. Stott, Genoa, IL. Burial will be at the Kingston Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also from 10 a.m. Saturday to time of service at the church. Memorials can be made for the American Cancer Society in care of the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178. I have lost track of where all of you Korn children went after you left Genoa. I am sorry to read of your father's passing. My prayers go with you as well as many happy memories from those days in Genoa.
